Woodworm and dry rot are the two biggest threats to structural timbers in UK properties. With over ????? years’ experience, R Bryn Jones  can treat any such infestation. Whether treating timber from new builds or historical buildings, you can rest assured we will take great care.

Woodworm and beetles

Woodworm holes found in timber are caused by the larvae of beetles that feed on the timber. The larger holes on the wood surface are formed when the adult beetle emerges from the timber. There are a number of species of woodworm, and the specific method of treatment will depend on which species is attacking the timber.

Dry rot and wet rot

Dry and wet rot are both fungi which attack and destroy wood for food. Wet and dry rot cause the deterioration of the timber which can have serious consequences in structural sections. R Bryn Jones Ltd can replace defective timbers and undertake repairs, where necessary, to retained sections. All retained timber is treated to prevent further infection.

All of our work is guaranteed and we are fully insured for your peace of mind.

Basement Conversions http://www.brynjones.co.uk/news/?p=18 http://www.brynjones.co.uk/news/?p=18#comments Tue, 31 Jul 2012 11:14:22 +0000 admin http://www.brynjones.co.uk/news/?p=18 Most families yearn for extra space as an inbuilt requirement in today’s modern world. Generally the initial reaction is to think of moving to a bigger and generally far more expensive home, with the built in stress and heartache that such a move brings.

You could always extend your home to provide more space internally, but ultimately lose space externally from your garden.

Stop; there is a growing band of homeowners that are utilizing the space they already have, by converting dank and dingy cellars and basements into bright and cosy additional rooms instead.

Maybe you are after a TV or cinema room, games or play room, home office or study, gym, utility room, or music room for example.

Whatever you desire Sovereign has the expertise and experience to help achieve your goal.

Is It Worth It?

Basement conversions are often the preferred option of achieving valuable additional living space as opposed to upsizing to a bigger, more expensive house.

Practically, for your average household, converting your cellar or basement can add as much if not more space to your home as extending upwards into the loft, or going out over the garden.

Most people think about creating extra space, but also about long term added value, both of which are results from converting your basement.

Some people simply think that getting that much needed extra space without all the downsides associated with moving house, is what matters.

So, basement conversion – is it worth it? In any event the answer is yes, but first consult the people that know and will help; the specialists at R Bryn Jones Ltd

How does cellar tanking work?

Having a tanking system in your cellar will ensure that moisture does not enter through the walls or the floor into the internal environment, and when coupled with proper heating and ventilation, a dry room will be created. Tanking, the traditional method of basement waterproofing, is achieved using a mix of render and waterproof agents in a cement mix, which is applied to walls and the floor.

Our work doesn’t need to stop once we have removed the damp. Our experienced building team can assist with any associated works, such as specialist re-plastering, carpentry or simply decorating.
